SiC Thermocouple Protection Tubes

Our nitride bonded silicon carbide or carbon bonded silicon carbide thermocouple protection tubes offer several service advantages. They require no preheat if dry, have industry-leading thermal conductivity and response time, high corrosion resistance to surface fluxes, and feature a simple hanging system with ½” or ¾” BSP threads on integral steel pipes. Additionally, their sealed pipework allows for use in pressurized and dosing systems, and their good electrical conductivity enables the use of metal level detection systems. They are available in a wide size range from 6” – 69”, 150mm to 1750mm, and come in standard sizes with short delivery times.

General information

What Are Silicon Carbide Thermocouple Protection Tubes?

Silicon carbide thermocouple protection tubes, including CERT, NICARB, and CERN, serve as crucial components in various industrial applications. These tubes are designed to withstand extreme temperatures and harsh conditions while ensuring the accuracy of temperature measurements.

How Do They Work?

CERT Carbon Bonded Silicon Carbide With Steel Inner Tube

CERT thermocouple protection tubes are crafted with a steel inner tube and a silicon carbide (SiC) outer layer. This combination offers exceptional durability and thermal shock resistance. These tubes are primarily used in applications involving aluminum and brass. They can be immersed in molten aluminum without cracking, making them ideal for demanding industrial processes. Max. Temperature: up to 1.000 °C.

NICARB Nitride Bonded Silicon Carbide

NICARB protection tubes are manufactured using high-pressure isostatic compaction and subsequent nitridation processes. They are known for their premium quality and extended lifespan in applications with minimal mechanical damage. NICARB tubes can withstand temperatures of up to 1500°C and are available with various thread connections for different series.

Nitride Bonded Silicon Carbide Without Steel Inner Tube

Nitride bonded Silicon Carbide tubes do not include a steel inner tube. They are suitable for applications involving non-ferrous metals like aluminum, brass, copper, and copper alloys. With an impressive maximum temperature tolerance of up to 1500°C, CERN tubes excel in high-temperature environments and offer versatile connection options.

Key Advantages:

Exceptional Durability: Silicon carbide protection tubes are highly durable and can withstand extreme temperatures without degradation.
Thermal Shock Resistance: CERT tubes, in particular, exhibit exceptional thermal shock resistance, making them suitable for demanding inustrial processes.
Long Lifespan: NICARB tubes have an extended lifespan in applications with minimal mechanical damage, providing an economical solution.
High-Temperature Tolerance: Both NICARB and Nitride bonded SiC tubes can resist high temperatures, making them ideal for a wide range of high-temperature applications.

Applications:

Silicon carbide thermocouple protection tubes find applications in industries where accurate temperature measurements are crucial. They are commonly used in:

  • Foundries
  • Metal casting
  • Heat treatment processes
  • Furnaces and kilns
  • Non-ferrous metal processing
  • High-temperature industrial environments
